The hands that make the boys
There are boys who, while making their toys, are like a bird learning to fly, they have a deep desire and persistent hands. They won’t stop making until they have arrived at what they wanted. Trial, error, fixing, adjusting, polishing, re-doing, they even make funny faces or stick out their tongues to help get it right, but they never give up.
Just as a bird sings to announce rain, danger, or another sunny morning, the boys that build things come to announce how much the hands can teach, how digging into the entrails of things rewards their effort and the level of their persistence.
Ah, how essential these afternoons inside garages, workshops and backyards can be for these boys, their faces buried deep in toolboxes, rubble and scrap heaps. There they give shape to their own hands and leave a little bit taller.
Here in Abadia there are these little birds, rather, boys with such eager hands.
Long before knowing about the importance of repurposing materials, children have been doing this for centuries. They know that everything, absolutely everything is available for their use, and they exercise their attentive gaze and eager hands in search of materials that call for a variety of skills.
Birds and boys achieve free flight through their own hands.
